This formula is a based on a combination of the traditional formulas: Xiang Sha Ping Wei San (Calm the Stomach Formula with Saussurea and Cardamon); Xiang Lian Wan (Saussurea and Coptis Combination) and Bao He Wan (Citrus & Crataegus Formula). It is designed to remove Cold-Damp as well as Damp-Heat from the Stomach and Spleen and also to promote digestion.

The herbs in this formula have demonstrated clinical action against a broad range of gut pathogens in addition to digestive, stomachic and carminative actions. Atractylodes lancea (cang zhu), Saussurea costus (mu xiang), Ammomum villosum (sha ren), Scutellaria baicalensis (huang qin) and Coptis chinensis (huang lian) all have antibacterial actions and help to normalise the gut flora. Magnolia officinalis bark (huo po), Pinellia ternata (ban xia), Citrus reticulata (chen pi), Saussurea costus (mu xiang) and Ammomum villosum (sha ren) are anti-emetic and carminative, alleviating nausea, vomiting and flatulence.
